We left Luces just before midday in clear
weather and headed up river past Yentna Station towards Skwentna. This
was a fairly uneventful stroll and little that could go wrong with
navigation. As the sun dropped we were still a fair way off Skwentna and
decided to stop off at a lodge that Eric and Andy knew about. No one was
too sure how far away we were and I eventually made for a light on the
Eastern bank some hours after dark. The light turned out not to be the
lodge but a private cabin which was occupied. The owner came to the door
after seeing my head torch and said we were still an hour away from the
lodge which would be on the other bank. The hour soon went and the three
of us arrived at the lodge whose name I can't remember. All I do
remember though was that it was expensive for what we got. A passable
meal and a few hours on a bunk. One of the Italians turned up a little
later and had a blood blister that covered a fair part of his foot, it
looked painful.
